History Of Massage

historyofmassage
We are often questioned about how the massage transformed from a human interaction to being emulated by a chair. Massage therapy can be traced back through thousands of years. Several ancient writings have references to some form of massage, particularly writings found in China, Japan, India, Egypt, Greece and Rome.
Massage Therapy is a form of alternative medicine that has many healthy benefits such as pain relief, injury rehabilitation, stress reduction, treat anxiety or depression, increase relaxation, and lower blood pressure. When you are receiving a massage, you are healing your body through the experience.
Massage styles have somewhat transformed over the years. Reflexology has become very popular and makes claims that rubbing certain parts of the hands of feet will result in a visceral effect on systems of the body. This is a claim that struggles to be backed up by scientific evidence.
What has been proven is that massage therapy releases endorphins into the body. These endorphins stimulate the lymphatic system that helps clear toxins, which has numerous positive effects that contribute to a much better overall sense of well being.
Mechanical massage chairs began to appear in the 1950s and grew rapidly from that time. A wheel and crank system was developed, that would work the massage rollers in the back of the chair. The technology transitioned to a body mapping robotic massage roller system with multiple massage styles pre-programmed into the chair.
Modern massage chairs seem to be coming out with new features and different ways to massage the body. The inclusion of personal technology gadgets, such as phones and tablets, are taking the evolution of the massage chair to a whole new level. It will be very interesting to see what develops next in the massage chair world.
